Impy's Island

Here is a selection of shots I worked on during the production of the movie "Impy's Island".

On this movie I was mostly responsible for set and prop texturing. Since we decided to do a look change compared to "Back to Gaya" we almost completely switched over to hand painted Texture maps, getting rid of pretty much all photographed texture maps.

Since "Impy's Island" was considerable lower budget than "Back to Gaya" staffing in the Texture department took a serious hit. So even when I found myself to be a Texture & Shading Supervisor on this movie, I didn't really have a whole lot of people to supervise but doing a lots of Texture work myself together with another texture artist. We were joined by a freelancer and 2 of our character artists only towards the end of the production.

So I ended up working solely or in cooperation with others on around 80% of all visible sets and props in the movie

In total I worked on something like 50 sets and close to 500 Props over the duration of 16 month often with timeframes of 1 1/2 weeks or less per set, which is pretty serious to do texturing and testing in. To do that effectively I built lots of automated stuff in the sets and set up controls to provide the lighting department with easy shader access. This way I was able to get rid of a lot of tedious maintenance work within the lighting scenes themselves. That, I think saved my ass from getting buried completely in work.
