Thief Lord

Below you will find a couple of pictures from the shots I worked on, on the movie "Thief Lord".  The movie is based upon the popular children's book by Cornelia Funke and centers around a group of children who discover the existence of a device that can actually make them adults in a blink of an eye.

In late 2005 Ambient Entertainment was tasked with creating some of the visual effects on the movie. Besides a couple of "animated props" they had to create the time tunnel for once the time machine in the movie is activated.

Since the whole time travel sequence starts out from a wooden merry-go-round we had to create digital replicas of the wooden figures to match with the live action footage of the actors on their (real) figures. This was mostly done with 3d scanning.

They took photos of the figures which then had to be patched onto the 3d models. This is where I came in. Because even though some of this stuff was automated, the results weren't always pretty and required retouching, repainting and adjusting.

The second series of shots I worked on was the animated lion in the centre of venice - again which had to be matched to it's real-life counterpart this time without 3d Scanning.

The texturing work on these shots - the lion as well as the time travel sequence - wasn't all that much and was done rather fast. Below the pictures you will find a list of people who actually get to take a whole lot more credit for the final shots.
